FC extend with Luca Kilian
1. FC Köln have extended Luca Kilian’s contract for a further season.
“We told Luca that he would have our full support straight after his injury setback, so that he can concentrate 100% on his recovery. For us, that means making sure Luca doesn’t need to think about his future during his rehab phase. For that reason, the extension was the logical consequence. Now we wish Luca all the best in order to return stronger than before,” said FC Managing Director, Christian Keller.
Luca Kilian had torn his ACL in March during a training session. The 25-year-old battled hard to make his comeback in 2024, step-by-step fighting his way back onto the pitch. He returned to action in the friendly against Alemannia Aachen in November and featured for the under-21s to build-up match fitness. At the start of December, in the Regionalliga against SV Eintracht Hohkeppel, an unfortunate collision saw him suffer the same injury once more.
“I was really happy that FC wanted to extend my contract straight after the injury. Especially in a situation like this one, it means a lot to have that level of support. From Christian, from Thomas Kessler, from the entire team and everyone who works at the club as well as our fans. I’ve had so many positive messages. That gives me a lot of strength. It’s nice to see that everyone sticks by you, whether things are going well or not. And that’s why I’m really happy to stay here – I will do everything for my comeback and want to start afresh in summer,” said Luca Kilian.
Luca Kilian arrived at FC in 2021 from 1. FSV Mainz 05. So far, the centre-back has made 67 appearances, featuring 59 times in the Bundesliga and scoring twice. In the 2021-22 campaign, he played 30 games and was a key figure in securing seventh place and qualification to the UEFA Conference League.
