Mathias Olesen was born in Copenhagen but grew up in Luxembourg, where he started to play football. His first club was Residence Walferdingen, before he moved on to FC Mamer 32 and RFC Union Luxembourg. After his time in Luxembourg, Olesen joined Eintracht Trier before making the step to 1. FC Köln in 2019. He was a fixture of the youth teams for the Luxembourg national team, being nominated for the senior squad for the first time in 2019. On 20th March 2022, Olesen made his Bundesliga debut against Borussia Dortmund.
